Alfred Schnittke (1934-1998): rustpunt van muzikale diversiteit
Knopskaya, www.cultuurpakt.be, 23-8-2018..Spanoghe en Michiels slagen er in om op gecontroleerde maar allesbehalve geforceerde manier de veelzijdigheid van Schnittke als één groot geheel weer te geven, binnen een eigen stijl bestaande uit velen. De celloklanken zijn warm en niet hangerig zoals dat wel eens bij hedendaagse muziek wil gebeuren. De piano wil niet overheersen. Ze begrijpen mekaar.
Enescu: Cellosonates op. 26 nr.1-2
...In 2003 verscheen dit programma op het Belgische label Talent, zoals de naam al aangeeft een etalage voor jong aanstormend talent. Inmiddels vormen Viviane Spanoghe en André de Groote een gevestigd duo dat zich al vaker op het label Et'cetera liet horen. De heruitgave lag niet alleen voor de hand, maar is ook volkomen gerechtvaardigd door de kwaliteit van de uitvoeringen. (more info ...)

J. Brahms, Concerti
Les amateurs du gros Brahms perdu dans les brumes du Nord ne seront probablement pas convaincus, mais ceux qui y apprécient l’élan, la transparence et le classicisme seront comblés. Trois femmes sont ici les maîtres d’oeuvre : avec tout d’abord la Japonaise Yuzuko Horigome, première lauréate du Reine Elisabeth 1980, toute d’élégance et d’engagement dans le concerto op. 77, avec des sonorités fines et brillantes, une justesse sans faille et une intarissable inspiration. On peut en dire autant de notre compatriote Viviane Spanoghe, sa partenaire dans le Double, op. 102, douceur et rondeur en sus, avec une belle entrée passionnée et un sens chambriste jamais pris en défaut. A la tête de l’excellente Philharmonie Tchèque, l’Américaine Joann Falletta emballe le tout avec des tempos alertes et un extraordinaire sens narratif.

...Hormis Philippe Bianconi, les solistes ne sont guère connus en France. Ils sont pourtant d'un niveau exceptionnel...Viviane Spanoghe , disciple de Janos Starker, choisit de ne pas trop se mettre en avant. Orchestre et soliste se respectent mutuellement.

The D Minor Cello Concerto (1877) opens with a Lento section, mainly an extended cadenza for Ms. Spanoghe’s own suave instrument by Francesco Ruggeri from 1680. Two themes dominate the ensuing Allegro maestoso, one a fanfare, the other a nostalgic song. Some truly lovely dialogues between cello and Mr. Guidarini’s fine orchestra extend the emotional largesse of this sonata-form first movement. (read more...)
